The truth about CBD oil: Facts & Myths

Confused about CBD oil and what’s actually true?
We’ve clarified some of the facts from the fiction to give you a better understanding of cannabidiol oil.
CBD is a cannabinoid….

Fact!
Firstly it’s important to understand that hemp and marijuana are both legal classifications of cannabis. In the USA, if the THC content is more than 0.3% it is classified as marijuana; if it’s less than 0.3% it is hemp. THC causes intoxication while CBD does not. Hemp and marijuana are made up of different components called cannabinoids and hemp has a much lower quantity of THC.
Cannabinoids are plant compounds found in the cannabis plant, and a few other plants. There are more than 100 unique cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. One of these cannabinoids is called cannabidiol (CBD). Cannabinoids act on the endocannabinoid system in the human body and cannabidiol is believed to have a wide variety of medicinal and therapeutic benefits and is used as a health and wellness product.
CBD oil makes you feel sleepy….

Myth!
CBD oil has a soothing, calming effect on its user. Combating feelings of stress and anxiousness can certainly lead to a better night’s sleep but the compounds found in CBD oil aren’t actually sleep inducing.
The part of the cannabis plant that does have sedative effects is called Myrcene, but this is a non-cannabinoid. Low to moderate, i.e. the recommended doses of CBD are actually more alerting than they are sedative. The more sedative properties are found in THC rather than CBD.
CBD oil makes you high….

Myth!
Unlike THC, cannabidiol (CBD) is not psychoactive. Therefore, CBD oil does not influence your thoughts or behaviour in an undesirable way. In other words, it doesn’t get you high.
The only way CBD oil may alter your mood is by making you feel more relaxed, less anxious or more alert. These beneficial qualities can also be influenced by the terpenes in the CBD oil and Hawaiian Choice uniquely formulates a range of additional terpene profiles for different types of symptoms, whether you’re looking to feel more focused, more relaxed, deal with pain or want to be more active.
There are recommended limits regarding dosage….

Fact!
A higher dosage of CBD oil does not necessarily result in more relief. In fact, the opposite can be true. CBD oil can sometimes have biphasic effects which means that a pointlessly high dose can actually have the opposite effect to the appropriate dose.
Taking too much CBD probably won’t increase your symptoms or cause undesirable side effects, but it may be less effective than taking the recommended dose. It is advised that you begin on a small dosage and then increase slightly if needed. Ideally, you want to find the lowest, yet most effective dose that works for you. Less is more!
You need a doctor’s permission to buy CBD oil….

Myth!
CBD oil can be purchased legally without a recommendation from your doctor. Many people still think that a medical card or prescription is necessary to obtain CBD oil but this is incorrect.
For marijuana or other THC products, depending on your State you may need a medical marijuana card. However, CBD oil can be purchased legally online across all 50 states and delivered through normal postal services.
CBD is the same as marijuana…

Myth!
Many people assume that CBD hemp oil is actually medical marijuana, but this is a misunderstanding. It is true that CBD can be extracted from both hemp and marijuana – in fact it is actually found in higher quantities in marijuana. But CBD from marijuana can only be sold in dispensaries and not online due to the high levels of THC in marijuana.
CBD products which can be purchased online are derived from hemp rather than marijuana. Marijuana products have the high THC content whereas hemp derived CBD has much lower THC levels (less than 0.3%). Hemp products do not contain the psychotic properties found in marijuana. Therefore, all Hawaiian Choice products contain CBD extracted from hemp.
CBD oil is well known for its many health benefits….

Fact!
Various studies have shown that CBD oil has many benefits such as relieving pain, soothing anxiety and helping with various illnesses. CBD research was initially hampered by the difficulty in getting licensed to do cannabis research in the U.S.
Recent CBD studies have shown it to have anti-inflammatory and anti-pain qualities, targeting glycine receptors to ease symptoms of arthritis and chronic pain. Other studies have concluded that cannabidiol can have anti-psychotic properties and have demonstrated that CBD oil can help ease symptoms of stress and anxiety in both humans and animals.
The results of the study supports the idea that CBD may be a future therapeutic option in psychosis, particularly in schizophrenia. There is even evidence to suggest that CBD is able to reduce the number of seizures in people with epilepsy, highlighted by the recent FDA decision.
If you’re planning to use CBD oil to treat a medical condition, we recommend speaking to your doctor about it first. The same is true when beginning any new type of medication or health product. Awareness about the health benefits of CBD oil is gradually improving and with more research and education, the myths about CBD oil will be dispelled.
